Harinama Diksha (First Initiation)
  • Purpose: The formal acceptance of the disciple by the spiritual master (Guru), linking them to the disciplic succession (Parampara).
  • Requirements: Sincerity in practice, typically observed for a year, including chanting 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra daily and following the four regulative principles (no meat-eating, no illicit sex, no intoxication, no gambling).
  • Ceremony: The Guru gives a spiritual name, chants on beads, and often a fire sacrifice (homa) is held, where the disciple vows to chant and follow the rules. [1, 2]
Brahman Diksha (Second Initiation) [1]
  • Purpose: The second level of initiation, often called "Brahmin Initiation," where the disciple is formally authorized to worship the Deity (Sri Vigraha) and receive the Gaytri mantra.
  • Requirements: Generally requires a period of dedicated service following the Harinama initiation, showing maturity in spiritual life.
  • Ceremony: A fire sacrifice is performed to initiate the devotee into the brahminical tradition, often receiving a sacred thread (janeu). [1, 2]

Sanyas Diksha

  • Significance: It is the "renounced order of life," or Vairagi diksha. [1, 2, 3]
