The reason for Shri Radha’s appearance on Earth, according to the book ‘Glories And Pastimes of Shrimati Radharani’, was because she was cursed by Shridhama since she became angry on Shri Krishna as he had gone to meet Viraja.

Vindhya parvata had the desire to have a fortunate daughter whose husband could defeat Mahadeva in fighting, and who would thus attain the position of Rajendra (Emperor).
Vindhya parvata performed severe austerity to please Brahma. At last,Brahma appeared and gave him his desired boon but thought to himself that who is that person who could defeat Mahadeva?
Then he realized that Lord Krishna’s Pastimes was going to take place on the earth: only he could defeat Mahadeva in battle and eternal consort of Krishna is Radharani and if Vindhya parvata gets Radha as his Daughter then his boon would be justified.
Thus Brahma requested Radha to keep his boon by becoming the daughter of Vindhya Parvata and Radharani agreed.
